This undated post card is of the former Merry Cliffe Cabins on what is now Rt 7B Central.  The cabins are still there being used as rentals.  The original cabins which had been modified by time this photo was taken were built ca 1925.  The house in the photo was built ca. 1940.

In 1952 Earl (1901 - 1978) & Mary Ellen (Swanson) Hinckley (1902 - 1977) sold the business to Kenneth (1929 - 2011 ) & Edna Selma (Beck) Albridge (1928 - 1993) of Westfield, NJ for $60,000.  This included the Hinckley home and 10 cabins.  The Hinckleys then bought property in Clarendon and built a new home.  Earl's obituary indicated he had operated the Star Lite Motel as well.

In a sad brush with fame, on Aug. 14, 1954 Philomine Dionne, 78, suffered a heart attack and died at the MerryCliffe.  She and 4 other Dionne relatives were on their way home to Westerly, RI from the funeral in Ontario of Emilie Dionne, age 20, one of the famed Dionne quintuplets.

When the MerryCliffe converted from tourists to rentals is not known.
