From Bette Fox in April 2020:

The last teacher at the Clarendon Springs School was Ellen Leonard Spafford (sister to George Leonard). In 1950, I was first assigned to do my student teaching with Mrs. Spafford but I was ill when the preview of student teachers occurred and Castleton Teachers's College neglected to inform Mrs. Spafford that I was ill which understandably angered her to the extent that she then declined to accept student teachers; thus, I student taught in Tinmouth under Hannah Hart and Mrs. Fish of Ira . In early 1956, the first administration of the Salk-Vaccine was administered at the Clarendon Springs School to area children. My two children, ages four and two , received their Salk vaccinations although, my four year old daughter had been hospitalized with non-paralytic polio in the fall of 1955.
