We do not know when this ca. 1800 Middle Rd home (greatly expanded from the original home) was originally built or when but it was long where the Holden family lived.  At the time of the 1869 map compilation it was the home of Eli Latinus Holden (1814 - 1899), his wife Eliza Arvilla (Crampton) Holden (1829 - 1895) and their 4 surviving children, the youngest two having passed away prior.  The family had come here from Shrewsbury in the 1850's.  They were prosperous farmers.

One of the sons of Eli & Eliza, Arthur Newton Holden (1850 - 1932) was a very prominent leader in Clarendon having been both a Selectboard member and State legislator.  Many of his official and personal documents were found in the town vault, some of which can be seen in the Documents and Events collections via using the search feature and his name.

The home of Eli's brother Elijah can be seen in the Elijah Holden House entry in this collection.

The cover photo is 2007 town records.  The photos below are from 2018. We would be most appreciative of older photos from before the home was enlarged.
