The Clarendon Marble Company quarry located off Walker Mountain Rd north of Clarendon Springs once had a very large presence in town. By 1916 it had grown to the point that about half a mile of Walker Mountain Rd itself needed to be relocated to the east side of the Clarendon River.  The original blueprints for that relocation can be seen in the places collection.  In 1909 the Delaware & Hudson railroad built a spur line from West Rutland to this quarry with a spur off of that to the adjacent Orvillo quarry.
