The cover photo is of the N. Clarendon Schoolhouse in 1892, courtesy of the Rutland Historical Society archives. The structure is currently a private residence.
The school is said to have been built ca. 1800. Per Dawn Hance the 1847 sale of property to Hannibal Smith that this parcel was a part of included a reservation made for the school lot. That would indicate the school was built much later than 1800. Perhaps there was an earlier school that had been on the site?
