Socialborough was the original name of Rutland. The boundaries as shown in this 1771 William Cockburn map included the northern part of modern day Clarendon. There is a notation on the map showing where the Rutland Town/Clarendon boundary is. Property owners of lots already sold at the time of the map making are indicated, thus we know precisely where some of Clarendon's early settlers lived. Note that lengths shown are in chains. One chain is equal to sixty six feet.
