The cover photo shows a painting of a colonial era woman ironing some finery using what was known as a box iron. Below is a ca. 1790 iron slug found on Horton Road that would have gone inside a box iron as shown in the photo below it. Two slugs were
used during ironing so that one could always be heating up at the fire
while the other was being used inside the iron.
The photo at the bottom is of an ironing slug found on the land behind the Town Hall.
