The link above brings you to the article on the Joseph Smith Inn - Bowman Tavern from the 1976 Clarendon History book.  This structure was built in 1773 and lost to a fire in 1959.  It was an important stopping point on the roads leading to Boston and Albany and served as a local headquarters for Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys.  The Rutland Herald article about the 1959 fire can be found in the Events collection under Pierce House Fire.  The inn was located on Rt 103 by the intersection with Rt 7B Central.
