This 1818 silk embroidery was made by either Lydia Hills (1798 - 1821) or her sister Lucy Hills (1803 - 1856), daughter of John  and Mehitable (Walker) Hills of Chippenhook.  At the link above you will find a transcript of the eulogies she stitched and some background information on Lydia/Lucy and the Hills family.  This and the companion embroideries (Elmira Clarinda Walker Embroidery and Hannah Cook Embroidery) also found in this collection are extremely rare examples of embroidery on silk from this era.  They are the only known examples in this style.  The Lydia/Lucy Hills embroidery is held in a private collection and is shown here with permission of the owner.
