This 1818 silk embroidery was made by Elmira Clarinda Walker (1805 - 1836), daughter of Lewis & Sarah (Gates) Walker of Chippenhook.  At the link above you will find a transcript of the eulogies she stitched and some background information on Elmira and the Walker family.  This and the companion Lydia/Lucy Hills embroidery also found in this collection are extremely rare examples of embroidery on silk from this era with only one other known example in this style.  That 3rd example is also thought to have come from Chippenhook in the same timeframe as these two.  The Elmira Clarinda Walker embroidery is held in a private collection and is shown here with permission of the owner.
