This ca. 1854 Peter's Lane home has been significantly altered and expanded over time. It was likely built by Abial Pearson (1789 - 1875) and his 2nd wife Abigail (Cobb) Pearson (1809 - 1871). Abigail had bought the property in 1851 from Thomas McLaughlin, and in turn sold it in 1860 to Michael Kelly.  Abial was a physician and a War of 1812 veteran, his having been a drum major in the Vermont Militia.  With his 1st wife Olive (Bliss) Pearson (1788 - 1838) Abial had 11 children and then 1 additional son with Abigail.  All of the children were gone from the home by time of the 1860 census.

In 1866 Michael Kelly sold the property to Catherine Higgins who the 1869 map identifies as Mrs. Higgins.  She was Catherine (Sullivan) Higgins (1829 - 1904), widow of Bernard Thomas Higgins (1817 - 1867).  Catherine & Bernard were both Irish immigrants.  They had 10 children 1851 - 1863, all born in Ira where Bernard worked as a day laborer.  His death record indicates he died of congestion of the lungs. Catherine and 5 of the children were in this home at the time of the 1870 census and 3 were still with her at the time of the 1880 census.  Catherine subsequently moved to Rutland by 1890.
