The July 9, 1863 Rutland Weekly Herald reported the body of 18 year old drowning victim Hiram Hubbard Young having been found in the Otter Creek near the mouth of the Mill River on the Nathan Smith farm.  Hiram had drowned April 11th in the Mill River near Cuttingsville.  He was born 11-24-1844 in Noyan, Quebec which is near the Clarenceville mentioned in the article.  Hiram was the 5th of 7 children born to John Young Jr (1810 - 1892) and Emerline (Patterson) Young (1816 - 1851).  Hiram as well had four half-siblings from his father's 2nd marriage to Margaret (Stewart) Young (1819 - 1907).

Where Hiram's body was found was very close to where the bodies of 9 year old Bertie McKnight was found in 1876 and 17 year old Bob Brugmann was found in 1973.  See the Bertie McKnight Drowns @ Mill River 1876 and Clarendon Gorge Drowning 1973 entries in this collection for more on those two drownings.
