Perry Smith (1814 -
1871) and his wife Lovina (Button) Smith (1816 - 1899) were living in this Creek Rd house by
1840. By 1860 they had relocated to Wallingford and their son
Lucian was living on the farm. The house is said to date to 1820. If that is correct then someone else was here prior to Perry & Lovina.
See the Fern Hill Farm entry in the Farms and Barns collection for more information on this farm. See also the Wylie-Smith Otter Creek Bridges entry in the Bridges collection more more information about access to this property in colonial times. Creek Rd did not yet exist south of the intersection with Walker Mountain Rd when this home was built.
