This album, donated by John Clark, was a Christmas present in 1880 to Norma Woodruff (1863 - 1952) of Rutland from her stepmother Huldah (Claghorn) Woodruff (1839 - 1922).  Norma's mother Martha (Hyde) Woodruff (1832 - 1869) had passed away when Norma was 5 years old.

The entries in this album include a number from Clarendon, but also many from various communities in Vermont and New York.  Norma had gone to the former Troy Conference Academy in Poultney (founded 1834) which changed its name to Green Mountain College in 1974.  The signers in her album were for the most part likely also college students.

Many of the entries are short poems or sayings.

Norma had married Dr. Henry J. Potter Jr. (1862 - 1918) of Bennington.  She is buried in Tinmouth Cemetery with her father and brother  Norma and Henry had met at Troy Conference Academy.  Dr. Potter died in the 1918 influenza pandemic.  He and Norma were divorced at the time of his death.  They did not have any children.
