This 1906 letter was amongst the Holden materials found in the Town vault.  The rail bridge in question is likely the one that can be seen in the Rail Bridge #149, East Clarendon entry in this collection.  The Smith farm it references would be the same one noted in the Enoch Smith House Cellar Hole and Enoch Smith Barn Cellar Hole entries in the Cellar Holes collection.  See also the Smith Farm Railroad Crossing entry in this collection for the bridge abutments that were built for an overpass crossing to access the Smith farm after the rail line came through their property.

That the letter was responding to concerns expressed by the Clarendon Selectboard speaks to the importance of rail lines to the community back then.
