This Walker Mountain Road house was built ca. 1870's. Details of the structures that comprise Clarendon Springs Village (and a map) can be found at the link above. Photos of the Stone, Cobb and Hall houses can be found in the Homes collection, of the J.P. Merriam Store in the Buildings collection, and of the Brick Schoolhouse in the Schools collection.
Byron Murray (1802 - 1882), his wife Sarah Everest (1821 -1897), and their children came to Clarendon Springs in 1866. They owned the Clarendon House, American House and other structures there. Little is known of their backgrounds but Byron is said to have been from Addison County, VT. The family was living in Vergennes, VT at the time of the 1850 census.
See the narrative from the 1976 Clarendon history book attached to the Clarendon Springs entry in the Places collection for more information on the Murrays and their Clarendon Springs enterprises.
