Jeannette (Ridlon) Piccard (1895 - 1981) achieved fame in 1934 as the 1st woman in the world to enter the stratosphere and then again in 1974 as the 1st first woman to be ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church.  Her father was  the pioneering orthopedic surgeon and educator Dr. John Ridlon who grew up on the family farm in Clarendon on West Tinmouth Rd.  See the Dr. John Ridlon, Father of Orthopedic Surgery in this People collection for more on him.

The cover photo is from 1934 after Jeannette and her husband Jean Felix Piccard landed in Cadiz, OH from their historic flight.
